Advancement Scholarships

At our AGM held on the 24th of November, 2022 at The Port Augusta Yacht Club, we presented our Business Port Augusta Advancement Scholarships to the successful applicants. The scholarships are to enable business owners or employees of local businesses to undertake further study or training to advance their skills or business.  See the below the successful recipients and what this scholarship means for them.

Quinnie Henley

When we asked Quinnie how this training would benefit business, she said, “At this stage, digital marketing is vital for my business. Online shopping has become so popular more than ever. I have built a website of my own, and I believe learning thoroughly about digital marketing and making use of it will help me reach a larger audience than I could through traditional methods and target the prospects who are most likely to buy my products. I hope I can draw more traffic and make my website one of the top ones when people search for the products our shop is providing”.

Quinnie Henley from The Lingerie Bar will be enrolling to study a Diploma in Digital Marketing.

Hayley McGourty

When we asked Hayley how her studies would benefit her business, she said, “With a desire to move into business banking, I assumed I would need to relocate. The company have since advised all employees that they do not need to live in a metro area to advance their career or switch departments. Taking this into consideration, my goal is to bring on board new businesses looking for financial solutions in the Port Augusta region. As we do not currently have a business banker outside of metro areas, this will benefit the business and give me the edge that helps me stand out as an obvious choice for the position”.

Hayley McGourty from Beyond Bank will be enrolling to study for a Bachelor of Business degree.

Tayla Carter

When we asked Tayla how this training would benefit business, she said, “At this stage, This will benefit Quirky Cove as digital marketing is a large part of my business, and I can then offer this as an additional service to my clients. I can use it to build my social media following with the new skills and techniques within the course. Working for the Hut Takeaway, not only do I work in the shop, but I also do small jobs that involve their social media presence; one of the above courses will help build on this and could add value to their business. Lastly, it will benefit my local and wider community as I have previously helped organise our local Augusta Markets; this will help improve the performance of this event and further ones to come”.

Tayla Carter from Quirky Cove and The Hut Takeaway will enrol to study a Certificate of Event Management & Certificate of Digital Marketing.

Jenna Groves

When we asked Jenna how this training would benefit business, she said, “In my current role with G.J. Gardner Homes, I assist clients with selections for their new home-build projects. By completing this training, I can confidently convey ideas and solutions to the client regarding their cabinetry and will be able to present 2D & 3D drawings for them to visualise. The course will also give me the skills to produce a comprehensive set of documents for procurement instead of the business having to outsource this service as we do now. In my own business, I am looking to be able to assist the wider community with all facets of design. By completing this course, I will be able to design and prepare documentation for built in cabinetry throughout residential homes, specifically kitchens and bathrooms which will fill a void within the community. My 5-year plan is to establish a successful full-time design business here in Port Augusta. This extra training will be a new opportunity for my business and in addition to my existing skills & knowledge, I will not only be able to design a new building, renovation, assist with interior design & decoration but also be able to design & draw the finer details of cabinetry throughout the building”.

Jenna Groves from Coexist Building Design and C.J Gardner Homes will enrol to study Design Custom Cabinetry for Interior Spaces.
